Community Thermal Witnessing
From Madeline Bruegger, the primary researcher of this project:
"Within this research study, I will be researching how cooling corridors including tree coverage and other intentional cooling infrastructures interact with daily resident activity and experiences of extreme heat. Through both participant interviews and thermal camera imaging observations, I hope to contextualize how residents experience extreme heat in their daily activities. Ultimately, this project will provide insights into how residents within different neighborhoods in Austin experience extreme heat as a felt embodied experience and something that can be witnessed by way of measurement through thermal imaging. This research project will support the Office of Climate Resilience and Action as it is community led research (Howard et al., 2021), drawing across inter-institutional research communities such as the City of Austin, UT Planet 2050, UT-City Climate CoLab, and the UT Department of Rhetoric and Writing."
